Exterior at Dusk

The architecture of this corporate headquarters contrasts the space, elements and textures of a western pole barn with an infill enclosure of glass and precast concrete. The 9,000 square foot facility provides an open office environment for the staff, and private suites for executives.

"Snowmass Land Company was unique because the client wanted to create this updated office space out of the use of more traditional forms and materials, used creatively through detailing.

"One of the most challenging aspects was to create a look of traditional, vertical, slip form walls, while actually constructing the panels laying horizontally. We used larger aggregate and drier concrete mixes, along with small rocks, newspaper, sand, etc. to create the voids of concrete around some of the larger stones, in order to try achieve the look of concrete flowing and settling vertically within this slip form wall, like those seen in Taliesin. It was the first time the contractor actually wanted the architect to participate in the construction."
