Burlingame Ranch Affordable Housing

In late 2004, the City of Aspen announced Poss Architecture + Planning as part of the winning development team for the Burlingame Ranch Affordable Housing design competition, along with Shaw Construction and DHM Design, Inc. The City's vision for Burlingame Ranch is to develop a new community that would provide affordable housing, be reflective of Aspen's character and also be a model of sustainable design.

Neighborhood Character

A commitment to quality and sustainability is an ethic embraced throughout the project with an understanding that this will be a neighborhood for young and old, singles and families, living here for permanent rather than transitional housing. The Burlingame Ranch community is envisioned as a series of smaller integrated neighborhoods within a larger neighborhood.

Community Garden

The conceptual plan expresses a self-sufficient lifestyle with emphasis on shared open-space, community gardens and orchards, clustered neighborhoods with a strong bike and pedestrian linkage, common facilities located in the center of the site, a looped transit route, and sustainably-designed units and buildings which reflect a ranch vernacular style.

Building F

The character of the individual buildings will be influenced by the ranching architecture of the region.

Neighborhood Character

"We've been part of Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley for over 27 years. This is a great opportunity to provide quality housing. It's a great design opportunity, interesting land, and a way to give back to the community."

- Dave Rybak, Principal in Charge, in the Aspen Daily News
